The Bording fabric expansion joints are very flexible, that is why a relatively large movement on a short installation length can be compensated. Fabric bellows are only suitable for gaseous media such as flue gas and air.
A fabric expansion is always custom made and the material composition is based on the temperature and medium composition. The principle of fabric expansion joints is based on temperature reduction over the different (insulation) layers. The temperature at the outside of the expansion joint therefore may not be higher than 80°C
The pressure resistance of fabric expansion joints is low. Therefor the application of fabric expansion joints is limited to air and exhaust applications. We like to help you with the selection of the right execution and material layout.

LT fabric expansion joints
The range of Bording LT fabric expansion joints (Low Temperature) consists of various types of expansion joints for temperatures up to 350°C
HT fabric expansion joints
The range of Bording HT fabric expansion joints (High Temperature) consists of two types of expansion joints for temperatures between 350°C and 1100°C.
Complete expansion joint unit
Commonly we only supply the expansion joint (fabric part) and if necessary the insulation bolster. However we can also supply a complete unit. This is a piece of ductwork, including the pre mounted fabric expansion joint and bolster.
Things to know about using fabric expansion joints
A fabric expansion joints in constructed out of several layers of insulation material and fabrics. The layers are sewn or stapled together. The gas tight layers are welded or glued together.
If the fabric expansion joints are delivered in a “closed execution” than the fabric expansion joint is closed in our factory and supplied as an endless ring. The advantage is that all the layers are already connected. In case of a new construction it normally is possible to install a closed execution.
In case of a replacement in an existing installation it is normally not possible to install the fabric expansion joint as a closed ring. This because an internal sleeve might be preventing this. In that case you can only install the fabric expansion joint in an open execution. An open execution is delivered as a band and must be closed during the installation. The several layers must then be sewn, stapled or glued together on site. This can be done by yourself or by the Bording site engineers.
Fabric expansion joints are often connected to exhaust gas dampers. We can also supply exhasut gas dampers. It is possible to provide the exhaust gas damper with a connecting flange for the fabric expansion joint or to deliver a damper including fabric expansion joint.
