Where heat is created, cooling must be provided to control the heat. Many manufacturing and combustion processes have substantial temperature increases as a result of creating and converting energy. Other processes need heat to come about. Examples include combustion processes to produce electricity and cracking processes to separate substances and elements.

Once the heat has been used to achieve the goal, the system must be cooled to prevent damage to critical components. Cooling water is used for this purpose. Local sources such as lakes, rivers or seawater are usually used for this cooling water. The nature of the cooling water and the continuous basis when these systems are required place specific demands on the components used.

Valves for cooling water

Because cooling is a critical element of the production process, several cooling water lines are often used in parallel with each other. These are often relatively large pipes so that as much cooling water as possible can be supplied simultaneously.

When seawater is used, it is important that all valves are suitable for this corrosive medium. Common types of valves are check valves to prevent return flow, butterfly valves to control supply and control valves to regulate the amount of flow. Because of the critical nature of the system it is important that these elements realize a long standstill time.

Rubber expansion joints for cooling water systems

Cooling water is pumped in large quantities from the origin of the water to the parts to be cooled. Both the operation of the pumps (vibrations) and temperature differences of the medium cause stress in the piping system that needs to be absorbed. The most commonly used type of expansion joint for this purpose is the rubber expansion joint.

Stainless steel expansion joints for cooling water systems

Because stainless steel expansion joints have good pressure resistance and can handle a wide range of temperature levels, they are suitable for a very wide range of applications.

For this reason, they are also widely used in cooling water systems. The advantage of stainless steel expansion joints over rubber expansion joints is that they can be fully customized. Regardless of the desired building size, the required movements and the desired construction, we can always design and supply a suitable stainless steel expansion joint. Thus we are able to accommodate axial, lateral and angular movements. A combination of these movements is also possible.

Pipe supports for cooling water systems

Like other piping systems, chilled water systems must be properly and securely fastened. This can be done in a standing way or in a hanging way.

Clambrace supports: corrosion protection for pipes

In many pipe systems, corrosion occurs over time as water builds up between the steel structure (e.g., an H beam) and the steel support (e.g., a pipe shoe). Our Clambrace clamping systems prevent steel-to-steel contact through a plastic protection between structure and support. A major additional advantage of this system is that there is no need for welding or drilling in the structure and therefore no need for on-site permits. Clamping of supports means not only easy fixing, but also easy dismantling if required.

PTFE plain bearings for cooling water systems

In cooling water systems, movements can occur when the system ''heats up'' or ''cools down.'' PTFE plain bearings are used where devices or piping must be able to move with a very low frictional force. The PTFE slide plates can take a high axial load and have a friction value less than 0.1. The bearings consist of a carrier containing PTFE sliding plates and a polished stainless steel counter bearing.
