Critical equipment for shipping
Critical equipment for shipping
Shipping is an industry in itself. A calamity at sea must be prevented at all times, making specific and heavy demands on equipment. When parts need to be replaced, these components must be available at short notice to avoid downtime and delays in the schedule.
Hanwel supplies various components that meet these tough requirements. We ensure that we have the right parts in stock so that your ship can quickly resume her journey.

Expansion joints for shipping
Piping in ships suffers a lot from vibration. A ship's engines are always flexibly decoupled. Because the consequences of a calamity at sea are greater than average, specific requirements are imposed on equipment in engine rooms. For example, expansion joints must be flame proof and meet the requirements of the classification society. Our Stenflex expansion joints type AS are flame proof and are suitable up to an operational temperature of 130⁰C.
The Stenflex rubber expansion joints type AS have various type approvals and are used in cooling water, oil return lines and in ballast water systems.
In order to supply ships quickly, Hanwel B.V. has a large stock of AS-1 expansion joints. Besides rubber expansion joints we also supply stainless steel expansion joints for flue gas ducts and application in LNG ships.
Marine valves
There are also specific requirements for valves within the shipping and offshore industry. These components must have a type approval issued by one of the well-known NOBOs such as Bureau Veritas, DNV-GL , Lloyds, ABS, RINA, or Korean Register.
Hanwel B.V. supplies a wide range of valves with these type approvals. Examples are double block and bleed (DBB) valves, fire brake valves (FBV), high pressure ball valves, valve manifolds, butterfly valves and check valves. In addition, we supply specific cryogenic valves for LNG ships and LNG bunkering.
Our valves are available not only in marine-coated steel and stainless steel but also in high-quality alloys such as Duplex and Monel. In addition, we supply valves made of bronze.
In addition to manually operated valves operated by a lever or worm gearbox, we supply automated valves. Depending on customer requirements, we can supply automated systems with ATEX and SIL classification. We can supply pneumatic-, electrical- and hydraulic systems.

Compressed air systems for marine gas scrubbers
With the increasing impact of environmental regulations and conventions such as MARPOL, the demand for dual-fuel engines is increasing year after year. A dual-fuel marine engine is capable of switching between a liquid fuel at sea and a gaseous fuel on approach to port. To make this possible, sealing techniques are required that ensure complete, 100% sealing of the system. This can be done through DBB valves as described above, but for larger pipelines other solutions are required.
Hanwel B.V. supplies flue gas valves with a barrier air system specifically developed for the shipping industry. The system consists of a flue gas valve, a barrier air system and associated piping & equipment delivered and installed as one system. Contact us for the possibilities.
Venturi fluid jets / ejectors
Keeping a ship afloat requires numerous rotating parts: engines, pumps, cooling systems, fuel systems, etc. Regardless of the extent and quality of maintenance rounds, wear and tear cannot be avoided, and parts such as seals and bearings will have to be replaced periodically. One way to avoid necessary replacements is to minimize the amount of rotating equipment. Applying
