GERB Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are high-performance vibration dampening systems that cover a wide range of frequencies (0.1 Hz to 200 Hz) and vibration masses (500 g to 600 tons). Each TMD system is custom designed and typically consists of a vibration mass, springs or pendulums, and Viscodampers®. These passive systems are attached to one point of the structure and are effective both horizontally and vertically.

Application
TMDs are used primarily in large, slender or lightweight structures that are susceptible to vibration caused by wind, machinery or foot traffic. They are effective in freestanding structures such as bridges, chimneys and television towers, as well as pedestrian bridges and grandstands, among others. By using TMDs, natural frequencies and internal damping can be optimized, leading to a significant reduction in unwanted vibrations.
