The challenge

The technical department of a major refinery in the Netherlands discovered during a running stop that more than 110 pieces of PTFE-lined DN300/DN150 reducing flanges were damaged and needed to be replaced.

The PTFE liner had deteriorated to the point where the components could no longer be used. If the flanges could not be repaired at short notice, the consequences for the end customer would be enormous.

How did Hanwel help?

On Friday afternoon we received the urgent request from the customer to provide 112 pieces of reducing flanges with a new PTFE liner during the same stop. After tuning the technical details over the weekend, the first batch of flanges could be shipped to our plant on Monday morning.

Upon receipt at the factory, all flanges were shot blasted and inspected, with repair work and adjustments made to the flanges as necessary. All flanges were then fitted with a new PTFE liner and fully tested.

The result

In line with the pre-arranged schedule, the first batch of flanges was delivered to the customer within a week and the second batch was delivered a few days later so that all components could be assembled step by step. The customer was provided with daily updates so that they were aware of the process at all times. In the end, not only were all flanges delivered and assembled within the agreed deadline, but the entire batch was delivered even faster than expected. This prevented unplanned and unwanted downtime.

Quote from client: ''Thank you for the excellent performance at this stop. You positively stood out!''
